Public Sculpture Appreciation Thread

    I've always appreciated public sculpture, whether privately funded or through taxes as part of an overall re-vamping/-landscaping of an area. It usually lifts my day when I pass it by, particularly if it's a little quirky in some way. With this in mind I thought I'd start this thread with a photo of a giant, coloured glass bunch of grapes which are in the middle of a recently redesigned bypass roundabout on via Vignolese, in Modena, the heart of Lambrusco country. (It might have been partially funded by CIV & CIV, a large wine producer in the area, as the red sign in the foreground resembles their branding.) When the sun hits it at a particular angle at either end of the day, it gives a quite wonderful effect. My photo was taken around 8.30pm, half an hour too late for the best effect. Over to you.     I have plenty more. Most public sculptures are made by specialist fabrication companies and not the artist. The turning of an artists idea into metal or stone can be an interesting process.

    This one in Chicago has received a lot of "tourist" attention because of its wow factor, but I still really like it:

    It's called "Cloud Gate," by one of my favorite living sculptors, Anish Kapoor (British artist).

    Walked by this last night in the Arlington, VA area. I took some pictures, but they didn't come out well because of my lack of skills. So I'm borrowing these from the interweb. There are some pretty cool sculptures in the Arlington/Clarendon area, but I was in a group and didn't want to make the others wait.
