1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

Back to the original intent of this thread, part of the issue is that the glued construction that many of us turn our noses up at is actually very reliable in many cases as adhesives have come a long way.

Many people here have convinced themselves that welted leather shoes are comfy as a slipper. Really.

They even claim to have run marathons in wingtips, b/c they are more comfortable than sneakers and Eccos.
They also said they use their suits as pajamas, b/c the suits are that comfortable. And that cheap flannel pajamas are awful.

I would sleep in these, but I doubt they are full canvas.

I have a pair of J&Ms that I have used as my beater pair,
and they are going on 8 years of regular use.
And they get the worst of the rain and snow.

Clearly the person who started that website did not know how to enjoy life.

His main obsession seems to have been a self-righteous pursuit of being cheap.

Wow. I didn't realize the website was mainly a reflection on his probable decision to commit suicide.

As I read your posts and ponder the inner turmoil that must rack your soul, I silently weep and thank my lord and savior that my wardrobe does not include any of the god awful shit that you routinely wear.

I hear you. It's not enough for people to simply say "I (don't) like it, so I (don't) buy it." They have to come up with sometimes asinine, overly complex rationalizations to make it seem like they're making the only logical choice. If you take care of them, then even cheap, leather shoes can last for a long time.

Welted shoes can be as comfortable as any other shoe so long as they are sized correctly.

(Wait, why am I contributing to this...)

I just went to that website. What a tragically incurious person. Somebody please delete this thread.

Never seen anything quite like that website. Some odd and even troubling content.

Yes, I realize there is an institutional problem with overmedication these days but this guy was a textbook case of where ssri meds would've helped.

And it's gross to use him as some sort of exemplar for buying shoes.

The Food Section was particularly tragic.

There is a reason pizza is the most popular food on the planet.
Pizza contains sugar, salt, and fat.
These are substances the human brain loves and craves.

If you love Tartare with wasabi and caviar
or confit with coulis and beets, it's b/c you're a puppet who has been conditioned to say it's tasty.

Precisely why is the conditioning of culture inferior to the conditioning of (apparently low-class) biology, thou pasty glob of tweedledumbpling?
