I have a hunch these are C&Js as well as these are awfully similar to the 348 lasted Merton loafer. They had a pair of these at my local BB and they are nicer in person. They are definitely a more fashion forward, or rather Italian inspired take on the loafer, but at $150, you'd be hard pressed to do better considering the construction. I am going to pass, but if they had them in black I might be up for a pair.

One thing I've thought about with regards to the natural color, it seems to be a perfect base for some home antique jobs, or send to Ron Rider for a dye job if you are looking for a darker color. Just a thought.
