Looking through his feedback he does get some good prices for stuff. £575 for NIB Vass, over £100 more than the current price through kolecho. Lobb shoe trees for £99, more than they cost brand new from the Jermyn St store

Not SF approved pricing I'll agree, but it must be a business model that's working for him.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got him down on a pair of City IIs in museum calf from I think GBP 650 or 575 to 425. So more than 5%. I checked with the JL store at the time, the City IIs were $1275 and not part of the sale, so at about 50% off retail for a shoe that doesnt appear to go on sale, I pulled the trigger.

I tried to get him down on the EG Dovers he's had listed forever for $1200 a while ago, but he wouldnt go lower than $875, which was too rich for my blood - although I believe his EGs are not factory seconds, but I'm not totally sure. But isn't $1200 close to retail anyway?

Yeah, I've seen him give significantly more than a 5% discount on past sales before, too. I'm guessing that his flexibility depends on the shoe and how long he's been stuck with it.

Sky Valet has Dovers (first quality, NIB, AFAIK) for $1075, so I would say that $1200 is more than retail.

Ascot has a pair of John Lobb Milton's for $670. Is that a decent price? It looks like they are probably seconds, but it isn't clear. Thanks.

lagniappe is "a little something extra; a special surprise; a toss in; the rub" - by him charging over list price for seconds, that, I am assuming, is the little something extra or the rub.

Hard to say; that's not a very common model (at least, not in the USA). I'd say $670 for non-current, non-prestige, factory seconds is a bit steep. OTOH, if you really want the Milton, it's not a shoe you're going to see for sale very often - $670 is probably its FULL value, maybe even a little high, but not absurd.

A "great" deal on this shoe in this profile (non-prestige, factory seconds) would be mid/high $300's.
