Protein bars/shakes that taste decent

Does anyone know any protein bars and shakes that don't taste like ****?

I'm currently using MetRx Big 100 bars, which taste barely acceptable. The taste of the cookie dough bars is sort of bat **** tinged cookie dough. Are there any that actually taste good? Same goes for shakes. Currently using BSN.

I like the Wellements Whey Protein powder (from Costco). I think it tastes pretty good. It certainly tastes "healthy" but its not bad at all.

IIRC, the BIG100 bars have rather mediocre nutritional profile: >30g of sugar, relatively high in sat. fat, a pedestrian protein gram/calorie ratio, among other things... And all MetRx bars produced after they changed the ingredients about 2 years ago taste like cardboard to me.
I mostly make my own bars now, but whenever in a rush I would go with this http://www.snickersmarathon.com/protein_bar.asp. The Chocolate Nut Burst one has ~26g of protein, 7g fiber for 290 cal and a decent taste to boot.

Personally I think protein bars are terrible..way too much sugar in them. As far as shakes go, Champion Nutrition are AMAZING. 5lbs can be had for $27 from 1fast400.com. I have the chocolate..with water it tastes like a chocolate shake..with milk amazing

I began the 'Cover Model' diet a few weeks ago and I've lost 10 lbs so far, my goal is 30 total. I use Muscle Milk, vanilla and mix with 2 scoops, - 1 banana, handful of berries, 3 - 4 oz of vanilla yogurt (without high fructose corn syrup) 2 teaspoons of wheatgerm, 5 slivers of ice, and 6 oz of organic 2% milk. This makes an incredible shake.

As far as bars go, you have to weigh the protein benefit versus the sugar or sugar alcohol. I very much like the taste of CLIF's Builders bars. Peanut Butter is my favorite with 20g of protein and 17g of sugars. Keep in mind your brain needs glucose to function and can steal glucose directly from your muscles limiting their growth. Sugar, in this amount, is good for you right after a workout and first thing in the morning.

Muscle Milk is the best tasting stuff i've tried.

Optimum Nutrition Vanilla Ice Cream flavor for shakes. I love Zone protein bars, chocolate graham flavor; they don't have that nasty, chewy, pasty thing going on that most have.

I think this was covered in Men's Vogue a few months back, when they had Keifer Sutherland on the cover. They had a restaurant critic judge them on taste, among other criteria.

I'll see if I can find the article.

Ya muscle milk is pretty good stuff. I use it right after workouts for recovery, b/c it is easier and faster to drink than a shake.

I use rapid recovery for prior, during and after workouts as I want no fat and a fast and steady state absorpition of proteins and carbs. About 1/2 to 1 hour later I think a muscle milk would be a nice hit. I will say the taste of muscle milk is divine probably due to the higher pseudo fat/fat in it.

I'm pretty good at sucking this stuff down, but I use Isopure in Dutch Chocolate as my whey protein and it tastes fine. Doesn't taste bad, certainly doesn't taste like Godiva but it's got an acceptable chocolate-y to it.

Also, for protein bars/energy bars, there's really only one answer in my mind (well two if you're doing flavors). BALANCE BARS. Mint Chocolate and Cookie Dough. heavenly

Optimum Nutrition chocolate mint...mmm...it's a thin mint in a shake. Perfect. Also agree on Balance Bars.

Do you Muscle Milk folks drink it at body temperature, as a guilty, dirty pleasure?

How many inches have you lost drizzt? The pics you've been posting lately have been looking better, but I thought it was just 'cuz you don't have the dropped dead hands pose.

Not a protein bar, but try the Tri-O-Plex Chocolate Chip cookies. 145 calories each cookie.
