I'm sure this has been addressed many times, but I'll throw it out again. What's the best color suit to wear to a wedding: charcoal, navy, light gray, something else? Pinstripes? Thanks!

Depends when the wedding is/how formal it is. No pinstripes. Can't go wrong with navy or charcoal though.

Afternoon wedding but I'm sure the reception will go late. It's formal for sure.

Like Achilles_ said, pinstripes' association with business makes it a non-ideal choice for a formal occasion like a wedding. As a guest at a wedding, I think you want to wear something classic, generally on the formal side (depends on the wedding), and does not stand out -- leave that potentially for the groom. With that in mind, solid navy or charcoal will never fail. Some SFers don't approve, but a black suit is also an option that raises formality without wearing a tux, which of course you can wear to a true formal wedding (otherwise you'll be out of place). Light gray would also work well, especially for a less formal, outdoor, daytime, and/or Summer wedding. Good luck.

If it's that formal you should probably do a tux (midnight blue is great

)

If tux is not an option, navy or charcoal will be fine.

I have a afternoon wedding this weekend as well but it is more casual, so I will be wearing my RLBL plaid suit with a green grenadine tie.

Too early for a tux.

Navy solid 2 button side vent notch. White point collar FC with mild links. Wedding tie. Black PA-type, very shiny. TV fold. No Bermuda Triangle. No pin stripes -- too biz.

Not trying to hijack the theak, but I figured I would post this in here instead of starting a new one: Is a velvet blazer a no-no for a wedding guest? Papa Dole made a good point: the only man that stands out should be the groom. I was thinking about wearing what I wore to my sister's graduation (see pic) but maybe I'll substitute the velvet blazer for a charcoal suit. The wedding starts at 6 pm. Is the floral PS and purple tie too casual? No idea on the formality (checking that now). Also, do you guys think the black pants worked, or should I have gone with charcoal? They matched really well. The event was somewhat dark but the ultra bright flash brought out the slight mismatch black shade between the pants and velvet blazer.
