Curious about thoughts on appropriate sleeve length.

According to Proper Cloth's article, "with your arms hanging relaxed at your sides and the cuffs of the shirt unbuttoned, the sleeves should come down to the center of the back of your hand (or the first knuckle of your thumb)."

I'm starting to question whether my sleeve length is way too short. My shirt sleeve ends approximately 2 inches above the first knuckle of my thumb when the sleeve is unbuttoned and is closer to my wrist than the center of the back of my hand. The sleeve does drape cleanly when standing still with arms at my slide but does tend to ride up my forearm slightly when I swing my arms. I've attached three close-up pictures of the cuff unbuttoned and one full picture of the sleeve with cuff buttoned.

Should I lengthen my sleeves? Where do your sleeves end when the cuff of the sleeve is unbuttoned?
To be fair there is a lot of room for personal preference on sleeve length. I might update that article to better explain the tradeoffs.

Appreciate the reply. I do frequently reference the articles on how different aspects of the shirt, pants, jacket, etc. should fit. Would love to see more updates on the original articles or additional articles put out.

Personally I've started adding a couple inches to sleeve length because I'd rather have some blousing when my arms are hanging straight than have the cuffs halfway up my forearms when I extend my arms. Everything's a tradeoff.

That’s what I did on my recent order. Added a half inch to allow some increased mobility and tightened the cuff very slightly.

So I think I've got my chino/jeans measurements refined sufficiently to suit my needs. But if I wanted trousers/dress pants, how should I change the measurements? I sort of assume slightly looser fit would be in order. What should be altered?

Has anyone had experience ordering suits/sport coats? I own a number of proper cloth shirts that I sized based off the measurements of a bespoke shirt and they fit very well, but I’m curious how the suiting process compares?

I've bought a few suits from Proper Cloth, and the starting point of the first suit will depend on your initial measurements.

Get measured by someone who knows what they're doing. My wife and I did my initial measurements, and my first suit was a disaster.

So I did a virtual fitting with one of PC's advisers, and the remade suit was very close. There were some other issues, but they were able to do another remake. The final suit just needed minor adjustments by a local tailor. Going forward from that point, I knew my measurements, and now ordering is easy.

IIRC it took about 1.5 to 2 months from initial order placement to receipt of the first remake. You probably won't need another remake if there aren't any issues and your local tailor can handle any necessary adjustments. Overall I'm pleased with the final results.

One thing to note, and IMHO this beyond PC's control, is that the suits do get quite a bit wrinkled during shipping.

You’d recommend getting physically measured then? I had been thinking of just measuring a bespoke suit I have

Yes, I'm sure that would certainly work as well. I didn't have a suit to measure, so I couldn't comment on going that route. IDK if there are special considerations when measuring an existing jacket, but I believe they have video tutorials on their website.

I can't comment from experience on how a virtual fitting would compare with a bespoke fitting, but I was pleasantly surprised at how close the adviser could get over zoom.

Proper Cloth has so many different kinds of pants (multiple different 'performance' chinos, multiple 'lightweight' etc. Very hard to differentiate.

They have try-on garments available. You pay a fee, try them on, have a video fitting, send them back, and the fee is then deducted form the cost of your garment. I'd be interested in learning about this option if anyone has experience with it.

Of all the ways I've been measured, yes, when ordering a suit, physically is by far the most practical, if not the most fun....

Just received my first suit from PC (Loro Piana in Navy). Happy with the fit and overall quality but wow is it wrinkled to oblivion. I have gotten a few jackets that were mildly out of shape when received which resolved with hanging and a couple wears, but this is much worse.

Any recommendations on the best way to resolve the deformities? I'm reading that steaming is bad, hanging in shower is bad, taking to dry cleaner is bad... Should I just go get it pressed?
