Does anyone here have experience with the Clark, American Puma, and Lightweight oxford shirt fabrics? I'm wondering how they compare and if the American Pima is worth the splurge compared to the others. I also really like the color of the light blue striped Clark compared to the other fabrics' light blue stripe pattern.

I have the Clark, and another more expensive fabric that I don't remember the name of. The Clark is heavier, coarser, stiffer and perhaps sturdier. The other is finer, softer and feels more refined / expensive.

They both have their place, one with jeans, the other dressier. Whether it's worth the splurge is up to you.

How does everyone get around the fact that Proper Cloth jackets seem to be quite short? Looking at all of their product images, the button position is usually too high and the overall jacket length always look and inch or two too short.

Would increasing the center back length increase the overall length of the jacket? I see when customizing the size, you can lower the button stance. Is there a general rule of thumb for how much to lower it by?

Yes, the centre back length will determine the overall length. Increasing it should also lower the buttons a bit, but I don't think anything in their documentation will tell you, numerically, what the default button position will be for a given back length. Since my proportions are unusual (their system won't let me increase the length or reduce the chest width any further), that's probably as much as I can usefully tell you.

That helps, thank you. I will reach out to their customer service to see if I can get some more info in regards to the button stance.
And please post what you find out. I am also interested.

Also I thought I saw the jackets were unlined. I must have misread? And they label some of their jackets as “soft canvas”. Can anyone share what this means? I’ve never seen soft canvas listed before.

Lining is optional. I think 'soft canvassed' corresponds to what this page calls 'soft, (fully/half-)canvassed', with a comma, where it's actually the shoulder that's soft (less structured).

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
