Got my first PC suit after buying their shirts for a while. I'm curious what people think of the result. This is after a fitting in the NYC showroom.

Tha pants I'm pretty happy with, theyre slightly too long but that's an easy fix. I was aiming for something a little higher rise but it's acceptable.

The jacket is a bit iffier. The top half I'm happy with, I think the shoulder and arms fit great. But I'm not sure how it looks like there is too much fabric in the midsection in the front, yet it's pulling in the back (could it be because I didn't cut the vents? I didn't want to do that if there was a chance I'd be taking it back in).

Hi, I'd like to offer a very big caveat and say that I am not a tailor. However, I have gone through both the MTM and bespoke journey.

Based on the photos, we have similar postures. A dropped right shoulder, slight neck forward posture, hollow back, and pronounced shoulder blades. I've learned from my made to measure experiences that if the base pattern requires a ton of changes, it's probably best to just walk away.

Curious, when you are moving around in your jacket, does the collar want to pull away backwards from your neck?

I like the wider fit of those pants. May I ask what your process was and if they had those kinds of pants to try on at their NY showroom?

I've had made to measure suit with measurements done at their NY showroom with specific request to make pants like those but it was way way off. They also only had base pants to work off of that were too slim to begin with.

The jacket was off too, even after a re-make, so that kept me from getting anything more from them, but seeing your pics, it's making me consider giving them a second shot.

I'm in the UK so all of my commissions have been remote. I have had plenty of past experience with MTM trousers from other makers so it was relatively simple to translate my specs over to Propercloth. If you don't already have a well fitting pair of trousers you can copy, then be prepared for a bit of trial and error.

For reference, the leg opening on these is 8.75".

Black cashmere rollneck, size M. For reference I'm a 39" chest. Suit is the Brown VBC flannel.

I’m looking to rebuild my business casual shirt wardrobe. Coincidentally, I’m visiting NYC later this month so looking to pop into Proper Cloth and Kamakura for in-person measurements. Should I favor the Manhattan vs SoHo showroom with PC?
Both are great but midtown is a bit larger and will have more product on display

Yes - absolutely no problem to open those vents to evaluate the fit

Hey y'all, hoping to get some advice.

I went into Proper Cloth's NYC showroom to get fitted for a suit.

I just received it today and wanted to get some feedback on fit, since I'm not based in New York and can't go back in for a check.

My overall perception is that the suit jacket is far too short, and the button placement is too high. It's giving me Andrew Tate vibes, which I definitely don't want.

Also, there's excess fabric in the back.

Any suggestions on what you would adjust here? I did get Proper Cloth's advice, but would love to get feedback from SF as well.

Thanks in advance!

apologies for the super late reply on this one. Is this the Bair McNutt Heavy Irish Linen in Tobaccoo? Considering getting a suit with this cloth, but I am looking for photos not taken by Proper Cloth's marketing department to get a better idea of color.

How are the fitters in the showroom these days? Better than adjusting through pictures online?

It's been years since I've gone in to dial in a size. To be honest, the fitters felt of the SuitSupply variety back then, not the best technical knowledge and biased towards a tight fit. I ended up just shooting from the hip on tweaking the numbers. Back to trying to dial in a size again, and wondering which would be the best route.

@Seph I am pumped about your new denim offerings, including both the ability to customize thread color and the new raw denim.
Regarding the raw denim (DPF002U), is this fabric unsanforized/shrink-to-fit? I am familiar with raw denim and its care, but I am curious on your guidance regarding sizing. My experience with true, "straight-from-the-loom" denim is that sizing requires tweaks, particularly in the legs, even when washed very infrequently in cold water.

They are doing a great job lately and are much better versed in looser fits than years ago. We also have some good looser fitting test garments you can try.

Correct they are unsanforized.

I don't have much experience with this raw denim - but in my experience it is tough to expect a super precise fit with any denim. Jeans are particularly tricky because the fabric will shrink quite a bit when washed - but more importantly it will stretch/loosen quite a bit after it's worn a few times. If you get the size perfect out of the box it will be too loose after a week of wear. If it's perfect after a week of wear it will be too tight after it's been washed, etc. I would suggest keeping this in mind when conceiving your size. Take your best shot with an initial order (or try one of our standard sizes), give it several wears before judging it, and just generally be aware and accepting of the nature of this product.

Going to take a moment to make an observation here- mind you, it's not a complaint as customer service took care of me.

Recently had a shirt arrive from the Black Friday sale. Out of the box it bordered on "too short" in the sleeves. After a wash- definitely too short. Gave customer service a call about it and found out a few things.

1) After you reach a certain threshold (I was told two remakes), they won't process a remake request until after the shirt is returned first. Note, for a fabric that is running low or "out of stock' (they typically hold some fabric back for remakes on outstanding/recent orders) this could put you at the back of the line and out of luck-- even if the shirt was made out of spec.

I've purchased somewhere around 25-ish shirts (had to check my order history) and I want to say that three or four of those were out of spec right out of the box, pre-wash. Another two or three were remade because they were "close" and a wash made them noticeably off.

2) I've been ordering shirts for approaching five years I've probably had more than a half-dozen customer reps tell me "wash, dry, launder, do whatever your normal routine is then check if you need a remake." Today I was told "we don't recommend heat-drying shirts from us, you should be hang-drying." Sure enough- that's what the website says. Take that for what you will.

Again, I received great customer service today so I'm not complaining- think of this more of a "heads up" post. I've only had one customer service issue (that they absolutely stepped up, communicated clearly, and remedied) and plenty of great customer service experiences with them; however, today was a bit of a "wait, what?"

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
