Proper avatar etiquette?

How do people pick their avatars? What's the story behind yours. What's the image you're trying to project?

And I've noticed that many people "wear" a matching signature, while others seem to put on whatever they want even if it doesn't compliment their avatar. What is proper avatar etiquette for the stylish forumite? How can he bring these disparate elements together into an attractive and harmonious whole? Or does it even matter?

Doesn't matter, IMO. My avatar is a picture of Dulles Airport, my signature is some quotes and the fire station I volunteer at. Absolutely no thought into it.

Have yet to come up with anything one either front. I really don't have time to look for anything, it must just "happen", all in good time.........

My avatar is one of the great style icons of the last century whose profound influence can be seen everywhere - runways, on the street, in clubs. They're all doing what Albert first did more than half a century ago - slumming it. And they owe it all to this great innovator.

Einstein's single greatest sartorial contribution? - not wearing socks! Not even in winter. The man was a genius.

And of course, I had to use one of his more whimsical quotes as my sig. Couldn't pass that up.

Never wear an avatar w/o a matching sig, that's my motto.

Is that an Escher painting? What's the significance? And what's the translation on your sig?

I read somewhere - maybe it was GQ - that the Church of Narcisism was the single fastest growing sartorial sect in America. Faster even than the Evangelical Fundamentists - I mean the Traddies over on that other board.

Way cooler than your average fashion story.

My avatar is Hamish Bowles, an editor at Vogue. I very much admire his personal style, though my own has since veered toward more contemorary/casual looks.
