Well, your suggested outfit wouldn't conform to what most sartorial purists would
consider correct black tie tuxedo dress, but it's a high school prom, so knock yourself out.

Please don't get a vest in this style. While true that your tuxedo, being 2-button, does not conform to traditional black tie, there are degrees of conformity. 2-button is not the worst offense you can commit. You already own the tuxedo, but since you don't own the vest, something can still be done here.

You should either go with a cummerbund or a low-cut traditonal black tuxedo vest. The vest will be very hard to come by, so I suggest a cummerbund. The reasoning behind this is that you want the dramatic V created by the dinner jacket and the white shirt. A high-rise vest ruins this look.

Also, don't wear a regular tie. Go with a bowtie.

    Consult http://blacktieguide.com for more information.

Wili it look good to people here? No.

Will it look good in the absolute Flusser/Boyer proper style sense? Definitely not.

Will it look better than most of your peers? Probably.

Could you do much better with lower cut vest in black, or perhaps a cummerbund? Definitely.

Does any of this matter to you at this point in your life? I hope not too much.

The lower cut vest or cummerbund is solid advice, but sometimes the guys here give the same advice to someone attending a high school prom that they would to someone 45 having a black tie weddng with a Town & County cover photo. You could do better, but you've already put some effort into it. That vest isn't ideal, but it's way better than you could have done. Have you looked around on here, or otherwise online, for images of traditional black tie? You might try that, if you're really interested in turning your look up a notch, as the poster above suggests.

Dreadful looking outfit but fine for aprom when few/none will have any clue what is good or bad. Wear if you really must and enjoy - then discard.

You'll be fine. Good luck with the prom.
