Anyone out there have any experience with the Project Management platform Basecamp?

Love to hear comments about it. How or where did you come across it and what are you trying to accomplish? I'm asking because I am also looking for similar software that is simple enough and not a burden to use.

We have a small team that needs to coordinate on projects from several locations. We are attempting to find the right way to cut down redundancy as well as improve the speed at which our projects are completed.

Basecamp came as a suggestion from a client, I am looking for some more feedback or to see if someone may have a better suggestion.

Basecamp is ok. My wife used it when she was a work-from-home executive assistant for a client in the US. There's a free trial, so why not check it out. My software development team uses RedMine, and another team here uses Project.net but we run our own installations. I don't know if there are hosted services for these. These may be overkill for your needs.

What do you think of Redmine? I'm thinking of using it for a small project that's just getting ready to have its own development team.

Check out Asana - it's still immature (and in private beta) but I have high hopes for it.

I really like it. We've used Trac previously, but Redmine has more actively developed plugins and features.

I'd say basecamp is good. It's simple and very easy to use. Projects are loaded in a single dashboard and you can assign to which members are on a certain projects and tasks. You can also try basecamp alternatives like zoho-projects and freshbooks. It works like basecamp but they have more features which you might need for your team.

We use a combination of Basecamp and Pivotal Tracker designing, developing, and publishing mobile and social games. Basecamp is good for organizing, designing, collaboration, and creative (art, visual design, writing) and business (marketing, product management, analytics, etc.) task work but sucks for managing actual development. That's where Pivotal comes in.

I've used Microsoft Project and Gantt Chart creators and basecamp is the simplest, most cost effective project management software I've found. It has some drawbacks (tracking time spent on tasks isn't easy) but the whole point of it is that it's dead simple. Therefore, people use it.

I use it for my consulting business and plan all my client engagements with it.

I think Basecamp is too complicated for me so I switch to eTaskamn.com. It is because it's a free web-based, has non-complicated functionality and convenient. I barely stay in the office so when I need to assign tasks or make projects, I prefer this site.
