price of a Kiton suit from Kiton store/ Barneys?

can't believe i'm considering this one, but given my new financial situation i might consider a new Kiton suit this year, rather than some other purchases i've been contemplating.

my question: What would a medium weight navy pinstripe, 3 button double vented Kiton suit run me, from the Kiton store (where i would avoid tax by having it shipped), or possibly Barneys (I could have it shipped to TN, again avoiding the sales tax i think)?

Again, I remind all who post it is difficult for me to call these stores (I'm currently working in the Middle East, and on an inconvenient shift to call the stores myself; internet access and making it to a phone are two different things here)-- can anyone offer advice/ assistance?

cool-- i think i could swing 4650 (at this and only this point in my life; thank God for tax exemption). OTR....alterations?

Can anyone confirm this price as pretty solid for me-- most interested in a medium weight for the suit, does kiton do a lot of that or are they mostly very lightweight 180s wool?

*i've been watching a lot of Boston Legal on DVD, and Alan Shore wore a killer suit of this type (pretty sure it was kiton or Borrelli, unless it was bespoke).

The $4650 neighborhood should get you a super 150s which is basically where Kiton starts these days. If you go for a fall/winter model there will be heartier fabrics that are not as delicate as some of their featherweight summer cloths. I have a few Kiton flannels that are quite durable and have shown little sign of wear in the time that I've had them.

Russ, you should buy directly from the Kiton Store in NYC, they'll have the best selection. Louis, Boston and Korshak are also good options.

I've seen Kiton suits marked down to $2000 at Barneys warehouse sale. And usually they're going pretty quickly at that price.

I echo Andrew's suggestion, if you are prepared to pay full retail, go with the Kiton store as they have the most selections and the best alternation tailor.

If you're going to pay the retail price then you might consider MTM, for a modest(10%?) up-charge. And, some stores will waive the up-charge at trunk shows.

You can find them at a NM Last Call for $1,400 to $3,000 if you are lucky on size.

Kiton has mid-weight wool suits. The light-weight suits are so finely made that you should consider too. However, it's not much use to think that a Kiton suit will wear like a poly-blend Haspel. I walk the dog in Doc Martens, not John Lobbs.

Is it just me or do I see more hand detailing on Borrelli suits than Kiton suits?

I think Kiton suits are much better made than Borrelli suits. Finer fabrics and the button hole stitching is nicer.

Next time you come home, fly East and stop at NM in SF on the way back. Talk to Angelo there. They have a great selection of Kitons and carry each suit in a large selection of sizes. And with the SF weather most of their suits are in mid weights.

wish i could stop in SF and take your suggestion, perry-- but this year i'm only stopping for three days in NYC (staying very near central park!) then visiting my family for the holidays. sounds like the kiton store might be my best bet, esp. to find one in size 42short.

if i found the cloth somehow, tho, i suppose i could order it from anywhere-- i'd have the alterations done at my favorite tailor in that case. might be fun to buy the suit from the Kiton store, tho, and i assume the alterations (plus $100 for func sleeve buttonholes?) would be pretty cool, yet have the suit shipped to TN to avoid the steep sales tax.

I would be very hesitant to pay that kind of money for a RTW suit. I would suggest you wait for one of Dege's trips to the Middle East and get yourself a solid bespoke suit for $4K

I tried on Kiton suits for 2500 euros in Monaco, no taxes. They sure were nice.
