Preventing wear - wearing chinos/casual shoes to the office - then getting changed?

Hi,

So having worn out my suit trousers from walking (house to train, train to office - and reverse) I have thought about leaving my suit in the office and getting changed each morning. I mainly sit at my desk at work.

So wearing chinos + casual shoes on the way in, with my freshly pressed shirt/tie/socks ... etc

Just wondering if anyone else did this?

To be honest, I do like wearing my suit but i don't want to wear them out simply by travelling.

Cheers,
R

I don't think travelling puts that much extra wear on a suit. The only time I used to change was when I cycled in.

What are you doing that makes you wear out your pants? I ride the train each morning to work and have no problems with my pants wearing out. Except for women wearing heels, I also think its weird for people to wear running shoes and carry their dress shoes to work. If you buy properly fitted shoes, they should be more than comfortable to wear while comuting to the office and back home.

Both see here: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=224309

Although that is not in relation to me, I have noticed the same happening, and would like to prevent. It has nothing to do with suit quality.

I do this every workday because I have a two mile roundtrip walk to and from the office. I keep three suits, a sportcoat, and four pairs of dress shoes in the office. I rotate them with other clothing from home periodically. I carry my dress shirt, tie, belt/suspenders, pants (if I want to wear a pair of odd pants rather than suit pants),and cufflinks, if any, for the day in my backpack. My firm has a shower room, so I just pop in there for a few minutes to change when I first arrive at the office.

I had the same problem until I had my pants tailored properly to remove the excess material in the crotch/drop area. I no longer have the problem...knock on wood!!

Just rotate many suits. If you only have one suit and you are wearing it every day it is going to wear out. I would say at least have a suit for each day of the week.

OK, but isn't going through all of that supremely annoying?

No, like PatrickBOOTH mentioned it more likely is to do with rotation. It doesn't help anyone to keep up snobbery of "quality" (along the lines of: 'I buy the best bespoke and you don't'). I've worn out very good quality heavy flannel pants by not rotating.

Mildly, but it's less annoying than grinding away my dress pants and shoes faster than is strictly necessary. (It also keeps me "fresher" in warm weather.)
