Preventing Denim Indigo Dye from Staining/Dry Crocking?

Hey All--

I always have this issue--

Whenever I buy a new pair of raw jeans the indigo stains all of my white shirts--and now it's stained the bottom of a new Schott leather jacket I just bought (see pic).

How do I prevent this? I know the standard methods of washing/soaking the jeans--but I am always a non-wash guy until after 3 or 4 months of wear. What is the best way to prevent what they call "dry-crocking" (the dye rubbing off) while still making it possible to break in my jeans and get that "unwashed" look after a year of wear?

Thanks!

Just wash them once with a mild detergent. It'll stop a lot of the bleed and you won't lose much color from a single wash.

Thanks nicelynice. Wash them in washing machine or cold soak with mild detergent?

Cold soaking without much agitation will remove a decent amount of excess dye without ruining your higher contrast fades.

Same thing happened to my J Crew skiff jacket. Oddly enough the dye went away over time. I don't know if this was from friction from the tail of my shirt, but I didn't end up needing to clean my jacket.
