Same reason everybody else does, I'd guess. The belt isn't really dangerous and the guard gets in the way of turning the wheel by hand. I was just wondering if it was some kind of liability or local ordinance thing.

Stephen Pulvirent, who has a blog called Simply Refined, is starting a series on a suit Chris will make for him, if you guys want to keep an eye out for a companion piece to this thread.

Stephen has one of the nicer blogs, if you're into that. He ran a piece on Chris a few weeks back.
