Strange question: Suppose I want to send a special somebody some flowers, and I don't want them to come from the run-of-the-mill FTD truck. Putting aside all value concerns, does anyone know where to order 'designer' flowers online? Should I just try local phonebooks? If so, what on earth would I ask them to ensure I'm getting what I want?

I really, really recommend Robertson's in Philadelphia (Chestnut Hill). They have a national network of high-end florists and always send fabulous designs. Everyone on our gift list just raves. The number is 800 242 6002 or 215 242 6000.

WHATEVER YOU DO... AVOID PROFLOWERS.COM (and I suspect others of their ilk)

I will upload later what was supposed to be sent... and what actually was sent... Needed to thank a supplier who worked hard on getting us a line we were after for a while...

My Boss and I were horrified when I received a picture of the weedlike concoction they sent. Nothing at all like the pic.

If in the LA area, the Empty Vase is superlative.

Call a boutique or luxury hotel in the area and speak to the concierge. They'll make a good recommendation.
I think this is the best idea - it's what I always do. Always order directlyt from the florist. When the order comes from a network, the florists know that they're really not accountable.

Thank you all very much. The flowers are going to the City of Industry, which is well east of Los Angeles, near Rowland Heights. No luxury hotels in that area. Is it a good idea to call a florist in Pasadena or Los Angeles to arrange delivery?

Pasadena is closer, I think... In any case, it can't hurt to phone the places and ask if they'd deliver out there and what delivery costs might be.

Don't you live in LA yourself? Just buy the flowers and bring them out yourself?

LOL, yes, that'd be the ultimate solution, but there is no way I can get off work to drive out to the city of industry. things are too crazy, and I'm way too new to be taking long lunches, heh.

Thanks for all they help.

There are many sites where you can order flowers online, which usually give you nice pictures of the bouquets and most of them actually look like on these pictures and are of good quality.
But if you want something more special and sophisticated I would go for a local florist and have it delivered by them. I am sure that is possible.

I use Beyond Blossoms when I need a nationwide delivery florist.
