I thought it might be fun to take a trip down memory lane and discuss the horrible, stupid things we did and wore way back when.

I'll start: For a while, I thought Born shoes were the ne plus ultra of men's footwear, and decided they were the only "dress shoes" I would ever wear. They looked like this:
and I wore them with jeans all the time.

I will confess that they were very comfortable, though. I also thought (though I never had the funds to act upon it, thank God) that a black suit, white shirt, and black tie was the height of fashion.

Remember, this is a thread to make fun of ourselves, not others.

I was trying to find my first fitpic, but it seems I deleted it out of shame :( I was wearing a cheap pleather jacket, white dress shirt, club striped tie, jeans, and chili calf AEs.

So instead, a piece of advice to anyone else in college.

Want to show off your good shoes?

That's fine, but do not bring them out drinking!

A) Your friends don't notice them.

B) Neither do girls.

C) Inevitably, you're going to drink too much at some point, and you're going to wake up with your wonderful dress shoes scuffed into oblivion. This was an extreme case, and a lesson learned the hard way. Note my AE sanfords, which now have gouges so enormous that no amount of restoration work can hide them. Thankfully, I was still pretty new do this, and everything was thrifted, so nothing of tremendous value was damaged, but it could've been much worse.

1. I have you beaten in terms of horribleness. Thankfully, no pictures survived, but I used to have this terrible poly-wool (more poly than wool) vest that I thought made me look pretty good. I would wear it with jeans, the aforementioned black Born shoes and an American Eagle white shirt. The vest fit me like a box. It was terrible, and to this day I still think it is the single worst purchase I ever made.

2. I could not agree more on the point about the shoes. I was going out drinking one night with some friends, and I wanted to wear this pair of Allen Edmonds that I got on ebay, because it looked pretty good with the jeans and oxford. My roommate saw me putting them on, and he was basically like, "Hawisher, what on earth are you doing? Those are nice and you'll ruin them." I changed shoes.

The shoes I wore got ruined.
