Possibly Raw Denim at Old Navy

Hi! I've been poking around on here for a few months, pretty much just absorbing information about different things. Thought I'd report on a little discovery I made.

I was at Old Navy (in Meridian, Mississippi) this past Friday (I NEVER go out on Black Friday, but for some reason I did this year) and I was really surprised to stumble across what I think are some raw jeans at Old Navy!

They are Old Navy branded and come in two different cuts (or at least I could only find two diffferent cuts).

One is "Skinny Rocker" and the other is "Regular Boot Cut" (I think, might be wrong on that one.) I got one pair of each. I really like the Skinny Rockers. Basically, you get a somewhat tighter fit than you get with what you'd normally wear in a "Regular." They're also narrower through the thigh. I asked and was told they could shrink a bit when washed. I tried to get the next size up, but unfortunately, they didn't have it. I hope they don't shrink too much!

The same person who told me they would shrink knew nothing about the fading properties of the jeans (i.e. them being raw). I'm almost positive they are though, as they have that dark shiny look, and a tag warning you about dye transfer onto other fabrics, and how you should wash them by themselves, inside out.

This is my first raw denim purchase, I really hope to have fun with these things!

Oh yeah, they were $39.50 a pair, plus tax (7%). So a bit over $41 I guess.

I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow.

They aren't "raw" per-se because no mass-market retailer would sell that (Levi's excluded). Rather, they're one-washes much like the BDG's, Sliq's, etc. that people have been finding for around $40 through various retailers. Unless you make it your mission in life to do so, they won't shrink/stretch much if at all since they're mass-market quality.

FYI, cmf's going to roll in his grave. The name of the dark wash on the skinny straight is "Sugarcane."

Uhoh...

well as stated above lots of 'mainstream' stores are selling raw/one-wash models, like the Gap or H&M. sorry no offense but if you still think that raw denim is some obscure unknown concept then maybe you need to pay attention

Yeah I noticed them a few months ago, the Skinny Straight in particular. for $20 CAD i was gonna buy them just for the hell of it, coz I didnt have a pair of straight leg dark denim. But then I realized they didn't even have rivets at the pocket corners, and that's way too ghetto. So I decided against it.

Although it was slimmer, it fit like ass as well.

I guess lots of jeans are ghetto then, including APCs/Nudies/Julian Reds etc, none of which have backpocket rivets.

true true. the fact that they have a model called "sugarcane" goes to show that, painfully unhip as Old Navy may be, they must have two or three people in Product Development who speak denimhead, or who at least have one of them denimhead-pocket-translaters for tourists.

I think he is referring to the lack of rivets on the front pockets.

Oh, that would make more sense.

That's pretty terrible, then. I don't think I've ever seen jeans without any rivets.
