Possible move to DC

I will likely be moving from Los Angeles - Washington DC in May -June, for 12 months.
Really curious as to what the (rental) property market is like.
Primary work base will be 6th St (near MCI).
Ideally I would not like to have to drive for more than 30 minutes.
Any thoughts on 'ball park' costs for a 2 - 3 bedroom house or condo appreciated.

Thanks

1. MCI turned into the Verizon Center a couple years ago
2. You won't be driving to work. You will be using the Metro.

Do a search for other threads discussing spots to live in DC. Pros and cons of the various areas have been discussed in detail.

I am not sure of the prices....I do not think they have gone down much.

I would at least include a quick look near the Navy Yard Metro as there seem to be a lot of new apartments there near the new Nationals Stadium. If you like baseball you could go to the games for rather cheap on a whim.

Other places to consider would be Shirlinton if you are driving in. It should be cheaper than anything on a Metro line and they have some kind of mass transit bus station there now as well.

I don't know how big they go, but there are a couple rental places just within blocks of the Verizon center. There's an Avalon place my friends used to live in (was going to go condo, but then didn't; don't think it has since). There are also a bunch of new condo places there and I'd be surprised if people aren't renting out their units.

Not cheap, but still cheaper than LA I think http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/s...oms=2&hasPic=1

You might want to consider living just outside of DC in NoVA or Maryland, cheaper rent (in most places) and you could metro into the city for work. I think DC is more mass-transit friendly than LA. I'd avoid anything in the Adam's Morgan area (too many college kids)

I too would avoid anything in Adams Morgan or Dupont Circle, too much partying and the places just are not as nice as just outside the city. Particularly in the neighborhoods I mentioned things are older and less well kept up I live just outisde of DC in Bethesda, about 6 miles from downtown. The rent is ridiclious but I feel like I'm in the garden spot. Tons of cool people, stores, and resturants. I highly recomend this area.

Having lived in LA it is necessary to mention the subway, as others have. It is absolutly fantastic! I own two cars but both are in MN because I simply don't need one here. But like I said it is expensive. A 2-3 bedroom place is going to cost $2.5-4k maybe more.
