I posted this over in the Rancourt thread, but figured I'd share here, as well:

Took some quick photos of my dark olive CXL beefrolls that I got from Portland Dry Goods. They're a custom makeup that PDG is stocking in-store (also available to over over the phone), so I got all sorts of cool/unique details, but didn't have to pay the $50 customization fee. The leather is stunning (just barely olive, so super versatile) and the soles are fantastic (I'm like a silent ninja in these, plus the heel keeps them a bit more formal/attractive than a crepe wedge sole). Definitely my new favorite sole for summer shoes. Props to Dustin at PDG for brainstorming this makeup.

    Album here.

Edit: No clue why the welt looks so prominent/dominant here. I can assure you they look sleek in real life. Still my favorite pennies that I've seen anywhere.

Thanks Dustin & the rest of the PDG team. I stopped by earlier this week and while browsing the sale rack, I came across a great EG piece that I couldn't resist. It was the navy cotton/wool light jacket from FW13. I couldn't be happier with the purchase and as usual I had a brief and enjoyable chat. Of particular note was some gorgeous Barbour x Norton & Sons jackets and knits as well as the Barbour Dept. B Commander jacket in navy. It's a stunning piece in Barbour's ubiquitous olive/green but is very unique in navy.

PDG is a "must visit "for me when in the area for business.

Can I request better pictures of the university stripe oxfords from NEsCo?

The pictures on the website are really small.

    Thanks!

Great store in downtown Portland that does a nice job of capturing a unique modern New England aesthetic. If you are in the area stop buy and visit it is well worth the trip.

    We're On The Web

    Hi All,

I wanted to hop in and say thanks for supporting us over the years - for those of you who have made it by, shot the shit, and sung us praises on here and elsewhere, it's heavily appreciated. we've had an online presence on and off and I'm proud to present our new and improved website in conjunction with our friends at SEAWALL - who I will be introducing seperately in the near future. It's exciting to know that those of you who aren't up here in the woods will be able to see what we're up to on a more regular basis. Product will update as time goes on but we've got a nice selection of our private label, SEAWALL shirting, and products from Gitman Brothers, Reigning Champ, Wings + Horns, Barbour, and many of our new womens' brands (Billy reid, Baldwin, etc.) as well.

Have a look by clicking through the title, let us know what you think. Now that the first big push is over I'll have more of a presence on here as well.

    Best,

    D.O.

Portland is now one of the top food cities in the country (really). We have the highest number of restaurants per capita than any city in the nation--beating out San Francisco--so I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Off the top of my head: Eventide (oyster bar and fantastic seafood...not a fried clams/steamed lobster place, though), Duckfat (the best fries on earth, cooked in--you guessed it--duck fat), Central Provisions (tapas style, just declared top 10 new restaurants in the country by Bon Appetit), Paciarino (fresh pasta with 4 selections each day for lunch), Pai Men Miyake (japanese noodle bar), Thirsty Pig (house-made sausages and good beer selection), etc....and all of those are in walking distance from PDG. If none of that appeals to you and you want other recommendations, let me know...and I'm sure the PDG guys can you give recommendations while you're in town, too.

Edit: be forewarned that a lot of the restaurants on Commercial St are aimed specifically at tourists and the food isn't as great as some of the other parts of town. Most of the stuff on that street won't be as special as what you'll find elsewhere, as it's higher rent places aimed at high turnover and capitalizing on tourism rather than good food year round.

All of the above are great stops, as mentioned above Portland is an amazing city for food. I would add that if you are in a rush and don't want to go to a sit down spot you should check out Blue Rooster. It is a newish sandwich shop that whips up some of the most delicious sandwiches I've ever had and is only about a block away from PDG. Also if you get the chance swing by Gorgeous Gelato, which is also about a block away from PDG, for the best gelato you can get without going directly to Italy.

i was just there a month or two ago. huge second on central provisions. if you're looking for a morning bagel/coffee, Standard Baking Company. drinks at Hunt + Alpine Club and Vena's Fizz House (non-alcoholic but really good mixology and they can tell you what cocktails to make with their tonics/bitters/etc).

oh and the PDG store is amazing. my girlfriend loved it too- they have a great women's section.
