Haven't tried it. I usually just have one of my interns granulate it with a needle and a pair of tweezers.

^ are you asking me? I'm looking specifically to buy a set of Tognanna Graffitti (the one pictured above). Extremely common plates in European restaurants, very easy to buy there but for some reason, I can't find them here.

I ended up in this thread searching for something else. I did a quick Google search for those plates, and it looks like they're available on Amazon.

The plate pictured (and used in most restaurants) is Bernardaud. Like 90 bucks a pop.

Yep - they finally arrived stateside. I bought the ones sold on Amazon - they're not as finely made as the ones I saw in Europe but they are still OK. The problem though is that Amazon doesn't know how to ship china so 75% of what they sent me arrived in pieces - heartbreaking and also a PITA to bring all that heavy stuff back to UPS to return.

Did yours arrive intact? I can finally order off Amazon here now, and I've wanted that Graffiti china for awhile. Otherwise I might have to call up a friend in England and get him to get me the John Artis set and bubble wrap it all and ship it to Japan. =\ Surprisingly, there's tons of nice bone china here that doesn't cost a lot, like Nikko, Narumi, etc, but none of them make wide-rim well plates.

but last time I had something shipped from amazon that arrived pulverized, they said "eh, just toss it" and sent me a whole new package via 2nd day air.

I might give the non-amazon method a shot, since John Artis prices are rather fair, like 7GBP a plate. I just need enough pieces to serve 4 or 5 plates to 5 people, so it shouldn't be that much.

also, I suppose it should be noted that Amazon has a promo going on where you can buy 3 sets and get a 4th free. Or a 4th something else that is also part of the 4 for 3 promo, there's a bunch of housewares stuff.

The Amazon prices are a lot more expensive but considering my situation, they might work out to be the same with shipping here. The selection is rather limited compared to Artis though, and I don't really need 6 pieces of the sugar bowl or the creamer pots each.
