It should go on the lapel of your jacket or coat, not directly on your slim fit shirt.

If you happen to have one of those idiotic 'white' poppies...pin that where the sun don't shine.

Tell us what you think about subjects/citizens who freely make the decision not to wear one at all.

White poppies?

Are they about peace?

People who live in Commonwealth countries (UK, Canada, AUS, NZ) wear poppies on their lapels as a sign of respect for those who died fighting in wars. The poppies are worn in the weeks before Remembrance Day on November 11th. November 11th was the day the Armistice was signed ending the First World War (11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month).

John McRae's WWI poem "In Flanders Fileds" is often cited as the inspiration for wearing the poppy.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Gentleman please. Place the poppy white or red where you wish. That you have taken the time to buy and wear it is enough.

Every year there is a poppy thread on SF. Most times it is started by some asking about commissioning a bespoke poppy, because the regular poppies aren't stylish enough. Anger and name calling follows.

I'm glad too see we've moved directly to the name calling this year.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
