Not a PMW as this sits above $1k, but certainly an offering from a definitive PMW brand. New Seiko Speedtimer Automatic Chronograph.

Many of their Prospex models are in the luxury segment already (price-wise) :)

This is a beautiful model. Congrats!

Yet another "holiday purchase" Next I need a new watch case but how do I explain that to my wife??? Oh that, I always had 4 cases, you just never noticed.:embar: View attachment 1717983

I absolutely love this one! I never gave the Powermatic 80 a second look but it is beautiful. My first watch is a Tissot. Second hand from the Dutch version of Styleforum and I still wear it today (even though it is a bit too big for my current taste).

Man, when the light hits this watch at the right angles, it's razor sharp. The bracelet also plays really nicely with the light. I just wish the dial diameter and lug to lug were a bit smaller, but it's great nonetheless.

****. Do you guys think Omega is a poor man's watch?
facepalm.gif

Regards.
I think that this comment is driven by so many guys who play "one up manship" with watch makes for example, "oh you've only got a Longines, mines an Omega; that's not luxury, you're not off first base until you own a Rolex; oh Rolex are so everyday, you need a Patek Philipe; yes, but a Nautilus is so baseline, you are not anywhere with watches until you own a Patek with high complications costing at least £150,000. And so on ad nauseam. Omega are great and beyond most people's means to buy. FWIW I own 3 Longines, 2 Bremont and 1 IWC.

^^^That's a Feb. 2011 post, btw.

Omega makes great watches, as do many companies above & below their price point.

Not to derail too much, but I really don't understand Seiko's marketing approach. Their new Seiko Prospex SNR051 has an MSRP of $5,500. The entry level for the Prospex line is ~$400? Why would I want a $5,500 Seiko Prospex versus a Grand Seiko that is comparable in price?

(Coming from a Seiko collector)

FWIW, the top looks better except for that ugly ass X. The tunas now have a laser etched crown with the X instead of the plain or signed S crown. It makes you rethink buying a $1500+ quartz watch.

....speaking of that... Here's my newest buy which was much less than that used. I guess technically it's a poor man's watch still.

I don't think the Prospex watch is bad looking, but why didn't they make it a GS? Very strange.

This article came out a couple months back and Seiko's president is quoted as saying "Seiko has become a brand of no clear identity." Seems to ring true.

I agree.

That and "Everything for everybody' ended up being 'everything for nobody."

The finishing on that GS looks a lot nicer than that of the Prospex, and without looking at the specs, I imagine that the GS also has the "Zaratsu" polishing which really does pop in person.

I agree with the others in this thread that pricing on a lot of the Prospex (and some of the Presage) stuff is really out there these days and yes, if I'm going to spend that much $$$ on a Seiko product, 9 times out of 10, I'm going to go with the GS.

____

@green_machine - That's a gorgeous Tuna! I've always really liked that version with the gold/black coloring.

Yeah, it just doesn't make sense to spend the same money on a Seiko when you can just get a Grand Seiko. Although, this new Prospex does look nicer than the GS GMT. I've never liked the numberings on the bezels of GS GMTs for their slightly cartoonish appearance.
