Anyone know who makes a sub-$300 equivalent to a Rolex Prince?

Isn't it? I don't know why someone can't make a mass produced stainless steel something that is really similar. You'd think the big companies own the rights to a tasteful dial and case or something. I don't know why it takes $7000 for a good looking tank watch.

Those are very nice indeed, but I don't know if you can find a modern one for under $300.

That case style/dial design is also called a "doctor's watch" or "doctors watch", so you might google those terms. (Now, though, "doctor's watches" are round dial, with pulsemeter markings.)
Rolex and Gruen made thoae, with the same Aegler movement I think, and they now sell for a ton if pristine. Hamilton also made a nice one called the "Secron". Elgin, Longines, Bulova, etc. But those are all vintage. I can't think of a modern one in your budget range.

You might post your question on watchuseek...lots more knowledge there.

I agree with the earlier comments about diver's watches and decent shirts. Unless your shirts are handmade and specifically cut for a larger watch, your very large and expensive piece will cause your cuff to deform. These large watches do not generally work with tailoring. They are for when you are off on the yacht (and believe me, I don't have anything like a yacht, not that I'm jealous!) or something like that. Otherwise, they just say, 'here's a man who can afford a yacht (or wants to look like he can afford a yacht) and wants you to know it'. (I have my own insecurities of course, but they are very boring and not on-topic!).

I was thinking that I don't have many watches, but actually I have four. Two were gifts: a slim modern but classically-styled simple Rotary dress watch (for my eighteenth birthday), and a late eighteenth-century solid silver half-hunter pocket watch, that was left to me by my grandfather. Two were bought: my everyday watch is a Citizen eco-drive, one of the simpler models, and I also have a rather strange 1970s hand-winding octagonal watch by Zeno, which I got cheap ages ago. Most of the time, I forget to wear a watch anyway...

Took your advice as it was good. Got this suggestion.

    http://www.lip.fr/fr/historiques/fred_lip/t18.html#type_18_chromee

Only 200 smackers. Pretty slick, huh? Well, minus the shipping. Good thing watches are relatively light. Shipping from France can't be cheap.

Also, to anyone interested on what may turn out to be a plethora of doctors watches just check out this link from time to time:

    http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/$300-equiavlent-rolex-prince-585153.html

So far there have been 2 suggestions for 3 watches. I think.

Let me know if someone wants the Parnis in the pic, I never wear it and it is noisier than my Jazzmaster. I wore it for an hour.

I can let it go for $55 shipped.

Any suggestions for something with a plain white dial under $200 (maybe 250 at most).

Can't seem to find anything that isn't super cheap like a Parnis. Orients are too busy. Can't find a Seiko 5 that I like with a white dial.

    Thanks!

You picture "inspired" me. Mine arrived yesterday. The mesh band though is completely useless as the length adjustment on the clasp is basically welded closed. I haven't been able to open it no matter how much force i apply. Did you have this problem? What kind of strap is that in your picture?
