I'm on the lookout for a diver. Either the Steinhart OVM or a SKX007 with sapphire crystal(yobokies). I really like the look of the Steinhart.

Big size difference, no?Isn't the Steinhart 44 and the SKX007 40mm?

Actually, the Steinhart is 42mm and the SKX is 41-42mm. However, the OVM is 49mm lug to lug vs 45-46mm lug to lug for the SKX. The Seiko also wears smaller thanks to its curved lugs that hug the wrist better than the OVM's rather flat/straight lugs.

As I have a Steinhart OVM I'd absolutely advocate getting it over the SKX007. Sure you can get a sapphire crystal for the latter, but the quality and finish of the Steinhart far exceeds that of Seiko's SKX series.

I think it's Steinhart for me then. I never tried an SKX007 but with my 8" wrists I'm better off with a bigger watch, plus I really like the look of the Steinhart.

They're good.

Honestly it's more a question of liking a face more than a substantive difference in quality.

I ended up sending back my Seagull. It was a beautiful watch, but an automatic just wasn't for me.

Ordered a Timex t2n692. Can't wait til its in.

Even so, it shouldn't stop like that. Sounds like it needed looking over. You could have also just wound the watch every so often, too.

How did I miss this topic until now?

Well, anyway, I'm a big fan of poor man's watches. (Actually, I'm a big fan of watches, and I'm too poor to buy the ones I really love, so for the moment I stick to PMW.)

Here's my small collection, that I started a couple of years ago, when the passion for timepieces grew on me.

Seiko 009

Orient Big Mako (Blue)

Orient FEM7G004W

Seiko Orange Monster

Sea-Gull D2869S

Finally, I have a swatch collection, not really because I like them, but because when I was a kid my father used to buy one during the most important trips, events, etc. as a memento.

PS - I do love the Sam Francis one though, and it's an incredible conversation starter. Wear it at an art event and I can assure you you'll end up with at least one girl's number.

Sprezz: What do you think of the Seagull? I just saw it the other day and decided I wanted it badly (albeit in gold), so I went ahead and ordered it. It seems very new -- can't find many comments about it.

Hopefully mine will be here in a couple weeks!

From a mechanical point of view I'd say it's one step below the other oriental watches such as Seiko and Orient.

But I really don't care because the price is absolutely fair and it looks great. I realized it's really hard to find good classic design in the PMW category, where most manufacturers seem to create something "new" to offer to the customers, forgetting about the good old classics. I love the Sea-Gull design, which reminds me of much more expensive timepieces. I also love the (very simple) night-day feature. I only don't understand why it comes with a black leather strap, when a brown one would look much better. It's however a very easy and cheap change that you can do after buying it (and I definitely will).

If Seiko's value for money is 9/10, Sea-Gull is surely around 7/10.
