Timex Marlin Automatic Sub-Dial.

View attachment 2248677

At 299 EUR a real poor man's watch.

Not my favorite from Timex but I can get the appeal. They've really been killing it the past few years.

I cannot understand what the subdial is trying to measure since there's already a second hand in the main dial. Is there a pusher somewhere on the side that doesn't show in the picture? Is it just showing 24-hour time? If so, can you set it independent of the main time so that you can track another timezone?

I think it's a straight up am/pm indicator, which makes it less cool IMO.

Certainly, can do with size reductions across the board. So moving from a tendency to produce 40-42mm to producing 36-38mm

I would agree, I think that 37/38mm are the sweet spot for the most wrists. However, on the other hand, I also love my larger pieces at 40/44mm. It's mostly a matter of proportions. Also crucial is the lug-to-lug width.

I agree. Its also a matter of one's taste changing with age. When younger i was happy to wear a 54mm U-Boat. Now that i think back to it i say to myself "what a twat". I can't even handle a 42mm anymore.

For the most part my tastes have swung back towards the smaller end of the spectrum - 38mm is perfect in most cases (no pun intended) for me, but something a bit larger can still be comfortable on my wrist. Like others have mentioned, a lot of it comes down to the overall proportions. Thanks to the placement of the lugs sort of under the watch, my Tuna still remains one of my most comfortable watches!

But as much as I am moving back towards slightly smaller watches, the one watch I've sold over the years that I miss most is my Helson Sharkmaster 1000, which was essentially a copy of the Omega Seamaster 1000. The thing was absolutely massive at 54mm lug-to-lug, 15mm thick (I think that's a conservative measurement), and with a lug width of 22mm. I sold TWO!! of them off quite a while ago when my pendulum began to swing and last year I started looking for another and have had no luck since then.
