I'm wondering what hair product I should use to get this effect in my hair:

I've only ever used gel in the past because I always used to have short hair. But now for longer hair I'm lost.

Pomade? Wax? Mousse? I'm quite lost :p

My hair is currently more like this:

Any help would be appreciated, because I really have no clue about this sort of stuff.

For a hairstyle of that length, pomade is going to be too waxy, and gel will be too stiff. You're not going for hold here, so much as you're going for natural flow (with some semblance of order a bit greater than just having no product at all in your hair).

I would recommend a mousse-like product, probably dispensed in a foam. Use it sparingly. You want to create some body and a very tiny amount of hold, but retaining natural movement is key. You don't want the hair stiffly locked into place, looking crispy, or looking greasy or waxy.
