What are the downsides to polyester/cotton blend dress shirts, like 60% cotton, 40% polyester? I'd be wearing them in a work environment.

Do these polyester blend shirts last longer? Do they always have more of that annoying bright "sheen" to them?

They tend not to breathe as well as 100% cotton shirts. Not the greatest for warm climates and they tend to be less comfortable.

I'm guessing, though, that they probably will last a long time. This has been my experience.

I absolutely hate ironing and I'm terrible at it. I used to get 100% cotton shirts but they now all hang, perpetually wrinkled, in my closet while I wear my part-polyester shirts. In SoCal, the real heat generator is the jacket, which one always wears outside. I find that when I'm outside it doesn't matter what type of fabric shirt I have on, I'm gonna sweat. Inside is air-conditioned so the fabric of the shirt doesn't matter much there either.

If I had a maid or a compliant wife, I'd wear all-cotton. Since I don't, I deal with 40% or so poly in the shirts I buy these days.

100% Cotton and cotton-poly blend shirts both wrinkle enough for me to want to iron them. Never had any ironing accidents with the blended fabric shirts that people warn you about. So I guess if you're careful that's a non-issue.

The cotton-poly blend shirts tend to make me feel sweaty and sticky with a bit of sun, more so than cotton anyway. So take that from that what you will.
