Hello,

I was in the Chicago mansion today and wondering, if the shoe says "Benchmade in England" in the inside of the shoe.

Does that always mean Crockett and Jones ?

I'm not an expert, but I'll try to answer your question. Polo shoes "Benchmade in England" used to mean C&J, but word on the street is that Sanders & Sanders is now making Polo shoes for RL. So now I would suggest checking the nail pattern on the sole. IIRC, C&J shoes have three nails parallel to the edge of the rubber part of the combination heel and a single nail centered on the part of the heel nearest the waist. Here is an example of shoes that are definitely CJ (handgrades):

Purple Label shoes are made by Edward Green and are distinguished by "Ralph Lauren" written in script on the insole.

So long as they are made in England. There are some Made in Italy RLPL shoes and sandals.

Thinman, in the above shoe post the ad says made in Italy. I am guessng that this is either an error in the ad or CJ makes shoe in italy as well ?

It is an error in the ad. I have the same shoes, they are made in England and most definitely C&J on the 337 last.

As TomW states, there's an error in the ad. I own a pair of Polo Altons and email from CJ assured me it's a CJ Handgrade on the 337 last. So far as I know, CJ doesn't manufacture anything in Italy.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
