Polo shirts advice

Hello I'm new to the forum I'm just after some advice, hopefully in the future I will be able to contribute more and help others.

When wearing a polo shirt (mainly Rolph Lauren) would it look good if I wore a contrasting colour t-shirt underneath if so what length should the arms be for the t-shirt under the polo shirt?

I was thinking of a dark green polo with a yellow t-shirt underneath and having the t-shirts arms rolled up with the polos slightly for a smart casual look.

Advice please?

Thanks

Your undershirt should never be visible.

I don't like tees under polos. My preference is for fitted polos which really doesn't leave a lot of room for another garment underneath anyway. I think just a well-fitted polo sans tee-shirt is a much slimmer look.

I tend to agree with the advice about tees not showing in general, with the possible exception of a sweater worn very casually. I'd rather see a fitted tee under a v-neck sweater than a v-neck sweater with bare skin exposed, for example. As another exception, tees worn just by themselves with jeans are fine. But I don't think it's a good look with most other shirts, and especially not with dress shirts.

There ya go. Sounds like a pretty simple rule to follow. And that way you don't have to worry about coordinating colors.

+1 I prefer the fitted polos as well, and they leave NO room for me to fit an undershirt.

I never knew it was possible until I bought a polo that ACTUALLY fit and wasn't a size too large.

To the OP I used to do what you want to and let me tell you it doesn't sound too nice to me anymore. I actually stopped doing it before I joined this forum but the polos I bought were too big for me anyway which was one of the reasons I did it, I didn't really try them on before I bought them. Waste of money now.

By never wear a T under a polo does this rule out undershirts? This is my first post in DSTW, I don't know if you guys differentiate between undershirts and T's.

You can wear an undershirt, I do. It just shouldn't be visible. This is why the V neck was created.

When wearing a polo, be sure to have no undershirt and chest hair.

GQ had a great article recently on how a polo shirt should fit-

Additionally, there is a thread on here about how polo shirts are going out of style. Buy accordingly-

Yes, only buy things that are currently in style. That way your wardrobe is sure to remain free of anything timeless, classic, or classy.

The worst look ever is when people wear long sleeved t-shirts under a polo shirt. Buy a long sleeved polo shirt if you want to wear long sleeves.
