I've been drooling on these two sweaters from polo.com but I'm really concerned about how they fit. Does anybody know if they fit slimmer than last year's line of sweaters? I mean what's the chest size for a small classic fit one? Here're the links:

Second sweater

Thanks a lot guys

I have the shetland, and its not that slim at all. Definately larger than my other RL sweaters (I wear size small).

Thanks, I wish someday they could make their clothes slimmer. I love how the clothes fit the models on their website.

I am wearing a polo zipneck lambswool that I just got off the sale. It's a small, I'm a 39 chest, and it's just on the cusp of being too big.

From my experience of ordering from polo.com, knitwears with "classic fit" (as described on the website) are not slim fitting and would look nothing like the fit on models in website photos. They obviously pin the hell out of it while taking the photos.

"Custom fit" or "trim fitting" items are supposed to be slim, but may be too tight around the shoulder/chest area.

Do you guys know sweaters that actually taper and slimmer than those and don't cost a fortune?

assuming you're not a size S, why not just size down? you might get the fit you want, and can return it if you don't. sometimes we get fixated on our tagged size

It's a source of neverending frustration. I think people are generally getting larger, and I am not. I was going through my closet this weekend, tossing some old coats from back in high school/college, and tried a few of them on. The coats were all "mediums," and fit me perfectly. Today, I have to buy smalls, as the mediums are way too big. (And no, I didn't shrink - I am exactly the same weight/height/fit as I was 8-10 years ago.)

Probably not going to happen. The models' shirts and swaters are typically pinned in the back when they're photographed, plus Polo sells lots of clothes to customers that need the room.

I was recently burned by this too. Today I returned four J. Crew merino crewnecks that I had purchased during the online sale (with a coupon) for $27.99 each because they were too big. Initially I had tried to convince myself that they would work, but they were just too baggy. I was able to order new ones over the phone and have the transaction processed as an exchange, but by that time two of the colors I had originally ordered were no longer in stock. Argh ... EDIT: That makes me wonder (and forgive the newbie question), is it possible to have 100% cashmere or merino wool sweaters tailored (read: tapered, taken in at the sides)? I have no idea if the nature of the fabric would prevent it, or if the cost would be prohibitive on relatively inexpensive garments.

Your question's been asked here before. I heard you need a knitter for that kind of problem. It would be extremely difficult and the sweater might end up in the trashcan. But hey, it's worth a try to make it both comfortable and fitted
