I saw the following pair at an auction on Ebay recently:

Who makes these? Are they Crockett & Jones "Handgrade"?

Also these particular ones sold for $280. Is that about how much I should expect to pay if I were to see another pair up for auction again?

You might get them more cheaply if you are fortunate.

I think that $280 may have been a bit on the hi side.

Yes, that was the thread I recalled (selling for a bit below $200) that made me think $280 might be on the higher end of things from GVH in Polo Benchmade shoes.

I have been paying in the 170-220 range.

Hmmm. It seems that the price are size-dependent and often random.

By the way, nerdykarim seems to think these are C&J "handgrades." How can one tell whether it's hand grade or bench grade?

Also, do they appear often on GVH?

Emails from C&J refer to this line as "handgrade." Forum experts often refer to them as "benchgrades+channeled soles." I probably just called them handgrades for simplicity's sake.
