I've cleared out quite a few older shirts - I never minded their threadbare nature (actually, I quite liked it), but they just didn't fit nicely any more and so they had to go. But I'll happily wear slightly threadbare shirts.

Trousers, no I don't like them to be tatty. Jackets? A little is tolerable, but big holes, no.

A lot of my chinos are treadbare at the bottom where they have drug the ground at some time or another.

Cuffs on a few shirts, collars on one or two.

Eventually cord trousers will wear, particularly on the butt.

Threadbare? Of course. Awesome. Shiny? That is the question....

Not usualy, if something of mine has become threadbare I will usualy pitch it. If it is an artical that I am sentemental to then I will see if it ca be repaired if not I just give it away to charity or something.

I like my shirts, socks and underwear best when they're newer, most everything else when older.

There are some articles of clothing I prefer with a little wear. For example, one of my favorite casual shirts was really beat - I believe it even had a small(ish) hole in the sleeve. It fit me perfectly, was really comfortable, and worked really well for casual wear, especially in Florida. I eventually had to toss it because it was too worn, but it was definitely threadbare well before it became a rag.

Linen shirts also tend to work better when they get a little worn.

I have about a dozen or so casual items I'd like to keep enjoying until I kick.
They were long ago gifts from loved ones. For businesswear I prefer to have everything look 100%.
