Pockets on sport coats

Am I suppose to open these pockets up, because they are sewed shut.
If so, what's the best way to undo the threads?

Or are they suppose to stay sewed shut?

You can open them with any small blade, or just pull them open. The pockets are only basted shut with a single thread, you you can just pop one end and then basically unthread it.

Some leave the pockets sewn shut so as not to risk ruining the lines of the jacket by putting objects in the pockets.
