Need some advice in pocket squares.

Would like to wear them with my suits but I have no experience and would hate to detract the suit with improperly using a pocket square.

I wear gray/charcoal suits.

What are the standard colors of PS I should get for starters?

Anyone recommend where I can get some for less than $20/piece?

Depends on where you are wearing your suits. Business attire? Can't go wrong with a white pocket square on a gray suit. I think that looks fantastic. Fold it so it forms a nice straight line just above the opening of the pocket.

If you're going out for dinner or drinks, throw some color in there, like a navy or a deep, dark red on a charcoal suit. Give the fold a little flourish.

There are so many threads on this. Just do a search.

For starters, white linen, white silk, white linen/silk with color edges, light/dark blue with floral motives, etc... Basically nothing too "in your face."

I tried to search but came up with for sale items more than anything.

I also posted an introduction but it was deleted.. regardless thanks for the suggestions.

Any idea on where to get some for less than the $40/piece I'm typically seeing.

Kent Wang is a member here. He does great work. There's a link to his affiliate thread at the top of the page.

I have to agree with the white linen with colored edges--it's a little more distinct than the standard issue all white linen.

Sometimes you can find some decent ones on eBay. but for bricks/mortar, just call around to the local men's stores in your area.

The white 'tv fold' suggestion is a great place to start, and maybe all you will ever need.

You can spend big time bucks on getting a fancy linen PS with hand-rolled edges ... but once you get them folded and inserted into your jacket, from more than a foot away they look basically the same as any inexpensive poly/cotton blend handkerchief you get from Walmart.

... but mine are hand-rolled Irish linen.

I go with white or white with the colored trims...with a straight square fold.

start with white, if ya wanna add color, a polka dot or a gingham print always work well.

I appreciate the suggestions ...

...PS is a whole new world to me so I thought a basic BBlazer/Grey trouser combo is a safe (and boring

) way to try it on..I think the choice of shirt will also dictate the proper PS color/pattern...I will definitely provide an update and ask more if needed...

Thanks again Gents !

If you wear charcoal and grey suits get one white linen and one in silk in navy with small white or blue polka dots for starters. Then consider a paisly design in silk with some blue, and white and another color as an accent.

Start with a few simple basics like these. As you get comfortable wearing them then you can add colors that compliment your shirt, tie, etc.
