Pocket square quality

I have a question concerning the quality of pocket squares. I love the style Tom Ford uses for his and an Italian store recently got a batch, from which I'd love to have one.

Now, can a PS even be worth more than $100? Can such a price be justified by quality? What do you think is the limit for a top notch PS, brand names aside?

Excited for you guys' thoughts.

I've occasionally paid up to $80 for a particular square that I especially love (perhaps one or two from those pictured below), but I think of this amount as high for a pocket square.

quality...what does that even mean? the thing has no function except to sit in your pocket as an accessory

i think i paid up to 40-50 because the edges, material (texture), color, and print/pattern was what i needed at that particular place and time

I don't think quality goes up much (if at all) beyond the ~$30-40 squares from the usual suspects. However I have no problem paying for design in this case... I'd agreee with RSS that squares at twice that are always tough to swallow but if I really love it...

Even $100 is tough. I like most of the Etro squares, but at $100-$110 I can't pull the trigger. Maybe if there was a sale.

$40 is as high as I go... At that price range I have access to Tom Ford

I'm pretty sure I've never paid over $50, including those Drake's unicorn tapestry squares pictured above. I grabbed 5 squares at the Drake's sale in Jan which was by far the most I've paid (but they are awesome!) Most of my pocket squares I've gotten for $10 or so from Century 21 in NYC.

^^^ Most of those are not by Drake ... but older pieces from David Evans. That said, my more costly pocket square purchases of late have been in similar patterns from Drake.

I covet my Hermes squares, and have paid royally for them. They are probably the only brand Ill cross a 3 digit threshold on, as they look like nothing else (except Rubinacci lol)

Love the squares. I wish Holland & Holland/Drakes reissued them again. This are the only squares worth to pay 80 bucks for. And maybe the Rubinacci ones.

I have a bunch of Tom Ford squares. The quality of the silk is great, very 'springy' in texture and fills out a pocket nicely. They are not worth retail though. I've never paid more than $50 for one, which is possible if you do some hunting. I do find cheaper silks always crush within the pocket and look very wilted by days end.

A budget minded alternative are silk squares from Robert Talbott, almost as good as TF, but can be had for ~$20 here on SF regularly. I also won a few and am very happy with them all.

If you are in NYC, C21 is your friend for cheap squares.

Intrinisically, no pocket square is worth more than $100. However, if you were to cross that bridge, the only pocket square that is worthwhile is Hermes which can be resold. No other maker has the cult following.

Its mini-scarves many times sell for close to retail or above retail!

No other maker approaches it in the resale market. Most average $25 to $40.
