I was wondering if somebody could be succinct and answer the question of material when it comes to the suit/neckwear/pocket square.

Here is one example:
A cotton suit calls for what material tie/square. Linen square and silk tie, correct?

So long as the tie and the square is made from matching material.

You don't want to match material between tie and pocket square unless it is substantially different in texture, e.g. a shantung tie and a silk pocket square. Usually if you have a run-of-the-mill silk tie, then a linen square is ideal. A wool/cashmere tie, with a silk pocket square. Of course there are exceptions, but learn how to conjugate your sartorial verbs correctly first, then deal with the exceptions.

I had heard similar advice. The neckwear material and pocket square material should not match, and obviously the square should not match in color but compliment. A more refined question then is this: How does the material of the suit govern the material of the necktie/pocket square combination?

Again, read FC's thread. Stick to combinations that make sense seasonally and on the city/country i.e. formal/informal dimension and you'll be fine.
