Pocket knife

I have decided I want to get a pocket knife. I'm looking for something subtle and stylish, of the kind where the blade folds into the handle. No extra tools or anything, just a simple knife. Any suggestions on what to get? Note that the blade has to be less than 10 cm (I don't want anything bigger anyway. After all, it's supposed to fit in my pocket...

) Maybe something like this, only without the gold/brass (silver is an option). Any suggestions? I know some of you carry pocket knives, so feel free to post pictures and information on where you bought it (if possible).

http://www.laguiole.com/ is the classic. There is a boutique in Paris that sells special edition pocket knives, produced by master craftsmen from the region... they can get very expensive, 2000 euros plus, but there are certainly cheaper models. Arnys also sells pocket knives. Most are as staggeringly expensive as you'd expect from Arnys, but 650 euros or so for a pocket knife in mammoth ivory sounds like a deal, if you're really keen! Just one thing: Don't try to carry it on a plane... imagine your 2000 euro pocket knife tossed in with all the nail files and toenail clippers

It is an assisted opening knife and therefore easy to open with one hand when necessary. You can remove the clip to make it more streamlined.

Opinel #6. I sanded the handle down and stained it the color I wanted and used it until the blade built up a patina. Looks great, cuts extremely well. Softer steel because it is a traditional carbon steel knife, but it touches up very easily. Best part about it is that it cost about $8. This is the best value in a pocket knife I think.

I also think that by Norwegian law, the knife blade can not be lockable (i.e. making the knife harder to use for stabbing people).

About the plane thing, international aviation laws allow knifes with blades shorter than 6 cm to be carried onto the plane, right?

Oh, forget the Chris Reeves then. Laguiole or Case would be better options in that case.

Do you have a picture of the customized knife (i.e. yours)?

Standard folding pocketknife like all the electricians use. Not that I am an electrician, but it's a very useful tool for prying, cutting and poking, and also rough measurements as it's 10 cm when folded. Costs about 3 dollars.

I could still get one, I would just have to remember to take it out of my pocket whenever I left the house. But then again, I have never ever seen the police stop someone to check if they are carrying a knife for no other reason than inspecting them. Of course, you can get checked when going to clubs or if you are involved in a fight or something like that, but I would never bring a knife when going out clubbing anyway, and I doubt I would ever draw a knife in a fight.

Couldn't get much more basic. I bought mine for 10 PLN.

Fällkniven U1 lacks a bladelock and can therefore be carried in public in Norway and the UK. Made of 3G laminate powder steel with a Cocobolo handle.

EKA Nordic 88 would be a cheap and cheerful alternative. Both should be easy to find in the land of sweaters and gjetost. (Hej från andra sidan fjällen!)
