Since my previous thread on wool pants, I set up some searches on Ebay in my attempt to find something that will both fit me and be of good quality and construction. The other day, I found a pair from Ermenegildo Zegna that seem nice, but I need some advice. Is it ridiculous to even consider purchasing them when they would need to be altered significantly? Specifically, the waist would be altered to 29", the inseam would be lengthened to 31" by removing the cuffs, and the legs might be fitted as well. If it is of any help, the rise is 13.5" and the leg opening is 8.5". As for my own measurements: Height: 5"9' Weight: 115 lbs. Waist: 28 Inseam: 31-32 P.S. Yes, it is very difficult to find clothes that fit.

Most RTW pleated trousers make me look like an MC Hammer impersonator; this will be even more the case if you have the waist taken in. I've found that a very small single pleat can actually look good on me though, but I would probably still avoid anything with pleats without being able to try them on first. You could have the pleats removed, but personally I'd say it's not worth the effort or the cost.

If you're looking for very slim trousers with a size 28 waist, you might want to look into some of the "fashion" brands that are discussed in SW&D. Patrik Ervell made some slim pleated trousers a season or two ago and might have current ones with pleats. I'm sure there are others too.

115? Are you okay my man? That's even slim for the hooligans over in SW&D.

Anyway, that sounds like a lot of alterations for an eBay item. Definitely check out the fashion brands, as they're made for guys like you (e.g., Dior).

I'd cuff your pants, too, because it'll add a little bulk to your image.

Would it still look silly if the legs were fitted along with the waist? Perhaps like this. Although, those are women's pants..

Thanks. I'll definitely look it up.

It is never good idea to have clothes dramatically altered.

Would you consider all of those alterations to be significant? I do not have much experience with tailoring, but I suppose that all of the work would be fairly extensive as well as expensive.
