Hi there,

I have read a lot of posts about the pleated/flat front issue. I wonder if there are people on this forum who have the perfect (or appropriate) build for a flat front, but choose to wear a pleated front instead.

I am 26 years old, have the "right" build for a flat front, but also like to wear the pleated front pants. I kind of like the look of the pleats if they are not too obvious.

Please let me know,

Mike

In general, people with the "right" build can wear both very nicely.

I can wear both but I choose to wear pleated for suits and most odd trousers. Counting jeans I'm at around 75%-25% pleated over flat front. IMO, pleated trousers look better and are more comfortable.

Supposedly I should wear pleats for my thin build, but I choose instead to cuff. *shrug*

I agree. As with many things, fit is key. If the fit is off, flat fronts look stretched and pleats bulge. Get the fit right and both can look good. Personally, a subtle single reverse pleat is my favourite but I have flats, doubles forwards and double reverses and the ones that look best are the ones that fit best, regardless of pleat style.

Flat front only. I don't see the need for the extra material. Its been my experience that those who say FF's aren't as comfortable as pleats are wearing ill-fitting FF's

It comes in handy when in the seated position.

I wouldn't be caught dead in pleats.

I'd only wear proper, forward pleats. I don't understand this American/Italian predilection for reversed pleats.

Normally I wear flat front, but sometimes I like pleats.

Only flat front. In my experience I haven't seen a 20something person look good in pleats. It always throws off the silhoutte and ruins the streamlined look you get with well-fitting shirts.

Never pleats - IMO they're an older person's style.
