Tom Waits, Dave Alvin, Flamin' Groovies, Merle Haggard, Grateful Dead, etc.

    Fleetwood Mac = British, no?

I thought Merle was on California via San Quentin. Was he not originally an Okie, or do I just think that because of the song Okie from Muskogee?

I'll second the Warren Zevon nomination. Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Brown, not so much. Both are talented and Ronstadt in particular has a beautiful voice, both neither really does a whole lot for me in the long run (pun intended). Ronstadt's cover of "Poor Pitiful Me" is pretty good - as long as it's been a while since you've heard Zevon's superior rendition.

Thirds on Warren Zevon. Man he was wild in the day. That line in Excitable Boy about how "He took the pot roast and rubbed it all over his chest." is supposedly a true story. His wife made a pot roast and he loved it so much, that in a vodka-fueled haze rubbed all over his chest, because he could not find the words to adequately express his appreciation for such a fine culinary fete. I still say "Sentimental Hygene" is one of the all-time great rock records and belongs in any Billboard or Rolling Stone or whatever Top 20 list of greatest albums of all time.

Yes, I think they're well qualified to represent the LBC. However, most people I know got their fill of them in 1997.

San Quentin is where he served time for robbery. Hag was born in Bakersfield to Okie, err, Oklahoma migrant, parents....

Sorry about Fleetwood Mac but I think some of their songs have a California feelings. Maybe in England they dream of a Surfin Safari like me [IMG]

I don't know where to begin first with all the suggestion here. I cannot wait to get something new for my player!!
