Please honestly critique this down jacket. Do I look like a buffoon?

My entire life, I've been buying clothes and shoes a size or two bigger to save money. The past 2-3 years, I've been actually going more form/slim fitting because I have more money to spend now and it just looks better. I'm considered athletic/slim, 6'1" and 170lbs. Am I going back to my bad habits with this down jacket? I know down jackets are very tricky in sizing...this jacket is a Medium and according to the sizing chart it should fit a 40" chest. I wear 40R suit so I figure this jacket should fit well. But I guess like everyone says, you gotta go one size down......? I guess I'm way off, because I measured the jacket pit-to-pit and it's 25"....whereas my slim fitting wool coat's 22" and most of my slim fit dress shirts are 21-22"....... What do you guys think? Do I look like a buffoon in the down jacket? Refund and wait until clearance next year? It's sad because I never see CG-inspired jackets (same style, quality, Made in Canada) for $300. Pics below:

Looks fine to me. You want to be able to fit a sweater underneath it after all.

in the range of acceptable, but I suspect that you could handle a size smaller and it would look like a slimmer jacket. It's the kind of jacket people won't expect to be that fitted, but it could be if you wanted.

Not sure I would want to, this jacket is rated up to -30C. Yes, I live in Toronto, ON, Canada. And yes, it goes down to ~-30 maybe only 3-5 times every winter if we are lucky

. I added a pic of my wool coat just to show how much bigger the down looks.

It's just not aesthetics reasons too.....when it's fully zipped, I think there's still space in the neck area which could allow wind to enter if I don't wear a scarf...

The Medium's hood fits perfectly well but I'm afraid if I go down one size smaller, I'll have to force my head into a Small....bahhhhhhh! Tall and slim.......it's hard to find stuff that fits well when they keep manufacturing clothing for fat and overweight people

If you want a parka any smaller and tighter to the body than what you have, you're looking into mummification. Stop worrying alreay.

If it's cold enough to need that jacket, then who cares how it looks. The jacket is more poofy than I'd like, but again, if it's cold enough, I'd sport it, hood and all.

Agree. Try a size down and see how it feels.

yes you look like a buffoon, but if it is cold enough to wear this coat, what does it matter. At that temperature, people aren't too concerned about style.

Some of the comments are surprising for this forum. Form and function are not mutually exclusive. He may want to be warm and like the way he looks at the same time.
