I have two suits thriftily purchased for around 14/apiece. I am trying to determine which of them (if any) is worth keeping to get tailored and would be asking for your honorable expert opinions as I am what some may call a noob in these matters. I do not wear suits every day and do not expect to do so in the near future. I would like to have one for special occasions and meetings without spending 4-500 dollars. I am 6'3 in dress shoes, weigh 185-90 consistently and my chest measures 40" under pits and 49" over shoulder.

The first suit is a dark charcoal Canali Proposta 54L 3 button ventless suit. It feels large on me but I wonder if this can be tailored within reason. Single pleat cuffed pants 1.75-2" too long and 1.5" too wide @ waist. Chest measures 22.75" laying flat and

The second suit is a circa 1996 Hickey Freeman Black Label 2 Button, Single Vent, Navy Pinstripe with soft shoulders and high armholes (typical for that age?) - It is unmarked sizing as it was custom tailored for a named client on the tag. I fear it is on the narrow side for my shoulders/chest - it measures 21" across lying flat under the pits and 18.5-18.75 " across the shoulder. Double pleat pants .75" too long and .5" too narrow waist.

My main concerns are with the jackets as both pants fit close enough to be adjusted by tailor to my knowledge.

Are either of these savlageable, which one would cost more to tailor, or should I pucker up and save the dough for a 5-700 new 'modern' suit?

Thank you in advance, Daniel
Daniel

Both look dated. Hickey is better. That is if it can be altered properly.
