Hi, this is my first post here... I've been having a read about all the excellent advice on morning suits and I thought I'd post mine and ask for opinions. We're not having the most formal of weddings, so I felt a little deviation (pink tie and pocket handkerchief) were acceptable.

The suit is a bespoke suit from King & Allen, shirt and tie from TM Lewin. I'm looking to buy some nice Loake boots to go with the outfit.

Any comments, thoughts or advice would be great to hear.

Cheers

Before everyone piles up on you for not having striped trousers and contrasting waistcoat, I thought I would post this:

As for yours, I'm not wild about the fit or cut...are you wearing braces in that shot? I'm guessing from the stacking at the ankle and visible shirt between waistcoat and trousers that you might do well to at least winch those suckers up.

Trousers definitely too long.

Waistcoat seem tad too short.

Is the shirt MTM or OTR/OTP? Seem a tad too big in some areas.

I'm not sure I see the point of the pink tie/ps?

That's a great tie and one ferocious knot...but I also question the tie color and the matchy-matchy of the tie and pocket square. I think the outift would look so much more sophisticated with a silver tie.

I don't think a silver tie would work, but I agree that the pants need to be shorter and made a trifle more tapered. Your shirt should not be peeking out under your vest, so if you've got braces, tighten them up.

A matching tie and pocket square is worse than no pocket square IMO. Why would you wear boots with such a nice suit?

Button boots or balmoral boots would work well. You could also wear chelseas or jodhpurs. I agree with all who have said to pull up the trousers. The shirt must not show below the vest. I don't like the pink tie ... but I really don't like the matching pink square. Are the cufflinks pink as well? I would rather see a (very light striped or solid) pink shirt body and normal colors on the accessories. Or a white shirt and only one pink accessory. At minimum, switch the tie (to a wedding tie) or the square (to white linen). I am of two minds about tapering the trousers. I prefer my own trousers cut straight or

slightly flared ... but the cut of your coat is rather different than what I would have, and it probably would lend itself to tapered trousers. Your sleeves are considerably longer than I like mine ... but so are HRH's.

Well done. The length of the coat is pretty much perfect. Morning coats should be a bit on the shorter side. The way it follows the shape of the waistline even with the coat unbuttoned is also good - better than Prince Charle's coat, which is too long for a morning coat and insufficiently waisted for a body coat.

I think the others have picked you up on the fact that you have omitted the braces before taking the picture, causing the waistline of the trousers to peek underneath the waistcoat. I would be a bit shocked if they were belt trousers in any case.

I concur with the comments about the length of trousers, but hopefully that can be fairly readily addressed. I would also prefer a slightly wider lapel, but that is purely a personal prejudice of mine. Overall, it looks good, and congratulations for having it made!

I usually ask for wider double breasted styled lapels myself but having seen plenty of Edwardian fashion plates with narrow pointed collars I think it is really up to individual preference. Hopefully, braces are all that are required to fix the puddling trouser hems.

Hello everyone, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and ideas - they're much appreciated.

Everyone commented on the trousers - they're falling down. I've been working away and have lost a little weight making the trousers fall down! Time to invest in some braces I think. Hopefully, that will fix the problem with the shirt showing at the bottom of the waistcoat.

With regards the tie and handkerchief. My 'future' wife was looking at a pink colour scheme for the wedding, hence my accessories. There's a fair point made about the tie and handkerchief, so I think I'll experiment with a wedding tie (probably darker towards the black, then silver). Just for info, the tie and handkerchief are at least two different textures. The tie has a dogtooth pattern which probably can't be seen in the photo, whereas the handkerchief is just a flat silk (no pattern). If I change the tie, I'll also have a look and see what a white handkerchief would look like too.

As for the boots - I'm often in a pair of Chelsea boots, which I find are particularly comfortable. (I've had a surgeon cutting bits out of my foot recently and a laced shoe is just agony!)... Not exactly, 'right' for the suit I figured; but it is a kind of riding boot so I thought I might just get away with it!

I'm glad the grey colour hasn't been shot out of the sky... From my bride's grandfather I understand that in the UK, the groom and father of the bride (her grandfather is playing this role) are seen in a grey morning suit; whereas the other grooms men are in the traditional black and pinstripes.

Thanks again - any more thoughts or comments are welcome. If there's one day I need to look my smartest, then the wedding has to be it
