Playful elements for a Sport Coat?

I am going to have a sport coat made soon, and this time, I am thinking of putting a playful/unoriginal element into it. I have been playing around with the following two ideas:

- cufflinked cuffs instead of normal surgeon cuffs (inspired by a tux that Tom Ford wore sometime ago)
- different colors for lapel hole and/or button holes (inspired by Gay Talese)

any comments, or other ideas?

Triple vents.

Button down collars. Two breast pockets, wear a pocket square in each. Back pleats.

I kinda like the link idea, as most folks won't notice. Hate colored buttonholes and suspect you'd regret it.

I have had button holes done in a few shades lighter than a jacket before. It is subtle and not to bad. It gives a little color if anyone pays that much attention, which most do not.

How about nicely shaped patch pockets. I have two jackets with double patch pockets on one side (for my Blackberry) it adds detail and serves a function by not distorting the main pockets shape.

I find the little tab on the lapel an interesting little touch.

something subtle like a lighter shade of thread for stitching around the pockets (patch?) could work.

What about getting a shawl collar? Not exactly that untraditional, but it can look very dapper.

Why not a cool lining? Not necessarily a flashy bright one but you can get a patterned silk or something.

IM not a huge fan of contrasting buttonholes. I have a brown plaid that i had navy buttonholes on, but the brown also has a navy stripe to it.

I really like one of the buttons sewn with a differend color. I saw a navy blazer with navy horn buttons, the top button was stitched with orange thread, as was one of the 4 cuff buttons.

When people bespoke stuff, there often seems to be a need to put in some element that differentiates it from something off the rack either to show off that it's custom or to justify to yourself why you went custom. Nine times out of ten it looks bad. A well fitting coat in a fabric you like is enough to make it stand out from something you bought in a store and enough to justify going custom. I recommend reserving the unique elements to something incidental, like the lining, or something functional, like psg's Blackberry pocket.

I like the idea of a simple sport coat that doesn't had a lot of bells and whistles to it.

Opt for a sport coat with a unique pattern or a simple coat paired with an oversized weekender bag!

Varvatos did a really good job sprucing up their jackets in their latest collection... no?
