Plastic sunglass frames - do they just not work on some people?

What do you think? Do plastic frames just not work on some people?

I fear this may be my problem. I would love a pair of tortoise-shelled plastic frame sunnies, but I just don't know if I can find a pair that will work. My head is far from small, and neither is my face, though it make be that my face is not that wide. I have relatively high cheek bones, and a "chiseled" jawline.

Wayfarers look ridiculous on me - the corner area (ie near the hinge) seems to stick out really far from my face and make me look like a fool. Even the smaller RB2132 frames look too feminine on me (the words of my girlfriend).

I really like the look of some Persol sunglasses - the 2869S, the 0714, and the 0649, but am worried they're going to look equally foolish on me.

Even most wire-frame aviators look absurd, I guess it is the big lenses.

My eyeglasses (which I love) are ic! berlin model otomo s and they seem to work well on my face (they are laser-cut stainless steel with a matte black finish).

Any suggestions for sunnies that might work?!

It has nothing to do with the plastic material, you are picking frames which are too wide.

That said, a wayfarer design is intended to stick out a bit, you should ask someone else for their opinion. It might look fine, especially the smaller version.

True aviator sunglasses are available in a billion sizes, you can most certainly get a high quality pair which fits you exactly. You can get any size you want.

If i listened to my gf regarding fashion advice, I would be looking like a billboard for ralph lauren right now.

I recently saw a Polo Ralph Lauren ad with these plastic frames in an easy to wear shape.

It's featured in their ad campaign this season. I'm pretty sure most eyewear brands would make a shape like this.

What do y'alls think about these? http://www.smartbuyglasses.ca/design...457-15794.html I tried em on today at a local optician and they didn't look too bad... The ones I tried on were the 52mm wide, so I figure if I went for the 50mm wide then they'd look even better... Edit: I just checked the measurements on my Ic! Berlin's, and they are 53-17-130, so presumably 50-19-X(unknown) on the Persol's shouldn't be too oversized for me

plastic frames can be a ***** to find to properly sit on a yellowman's face....i've found if the frame is too curved it wont sit at all so I look for frames that are pretty straight with minimal curvature

Yes, the sunglasses are almost blocked by the cheeks and hover about an inch from the nose. I'm half asian so I've had this specific problem and the other nuisance of having a big head. But I picked up a pair of Salt Vance's and I've never even been curious about finding another pair of sunglasses.

Korce, why don't check out a pair of curved aviators. I have a friend (even though he's slightly eurotrash) who has a pair and they seem to frame his face pretty well.

+1
I found Alan Mikli's have an adjustable nose piece that will help with the fit.

If by curved you mean the "wrap" style that wraps around the face a bit, I actually just bought a cheap pair from MEC (mountain equipment co-op - canadian outdoor store) in that exact "curved aviator" style with a small-ish lens. They're not bad, and fit my face pretty well, but they look a little too douchebaggy/eurotrash for my liking. I'm probably going to return them.

This is what they look like:

Those look nice! I think even those lenses might be a bit too big. See if you can find some modified aviators with an even smaller lens, maybe rounded at the top and flatter at the bottom.

Unfortunately yeah, those kind of styles tend to make you look a little eurotrash. But like anything, as long as you coordinate it with stuff that's sufficiently not eurotrash, it should be fine. So don't go spend your hard earned cash on True Religion and Affliction. God do I hate eurotrash.

.

I actually have a pair of (broken) aviators from MEC a few years back that have a smaller lens than those, less of a "wrap" and fit my face really well. Not eurotrashy at all. Unfortunately, the hinge on them is bent because somebody sat on them

. I've never bothered trying to fix them, though it might be do-able. Sadly, MEC doesn't make that exact style anymore, as it has been replaced by the one linked above!

Darn.

Any thoughts on those Persol 2869s POL ? I was thinking the 50mm lens might work...
