If they have brains, they are alive. What the hell are all those vegans going to eat now?

Gee, we've never had THIS thread before...

I've been telling you that plants have a brain, communicate, react to and actively avoid pain, and can tell self from other for what... two years now?

Welcome to old newsville.

Many fruits depend on being eaten for reproduction, that's how their seeds spread and grow. You can use parts of plants without killing it. Empathy is a part of many animals' psyche. There is no mutual interaction with plants like there are with animals. If you haven't noticed, the animal rights movement is much larger than the plant rights. You can discover reasons for that if you think some.

Yogurt has a brain too. There was a scientist who hooked up a lie detector machine to yogurt and it was responsive. He measured the heart beat and came to the conclusion that yogurt has feelings.

Which is entirely besides the point.

An unfounded assumption on your part, and probably an incorrect one given the chemical interaction between plants and insects.

Because the animal rights movement isn't about animals at all, it's about people and guilt. Animal rights activists *generally* actively resist any scientific evidence that plants and animals are similar, in their ability to react to and feel pain because they don't want to feel GUILTY about the treatment or eating of plants.

If you are talking about the Cleve Baxter experiments in the 60's, it hasn't ever been successfully replicated in any other lab as far as I know, so the results are questionable. I believe Mythbusters had a crack at it.

Humans are animals and therefore able to identify with many animals emotionally. That is the reason why people feel for a killed chimpanzee instead of a banana being eaten. When people find an animal to be "cute", it is really a perceived innocence and applying similarities of the animal from their own human species.

Animal rights is not about guilt and you are detached if you think that it isn't about animals. Humans are the top species on the planet so the human brain is used as a model for understanding other animals. There is no comparison for plants or ways to understand their experience of existence.

You'll note that you just agreed with me that animal rights are about people and guilt, not animals. You will also note that there are very few if any reliable scientific studies showing that animals besides humans feel guilty about killing other animals. In fact, quite the opposite in most cases. Many of the "intelligent" animals on this planet, dolphins, chimps, et al - kill for sport, territory, food, mates, and etc.

You are generalizing an entire species based on the actions of some. Not a smart thing to do, especially with more complex animals like humans, dolphins and chimps. There are no studies showing animals killing for survival feel guilty, because they probably don't. There are many cases and observations of animals displaying empathetic behavior with other species (which might trigger a sense of guilt) or with their own. On that note, in the beginning of a video there is a similarity:

think of those millions of soybeans slowly crushed to their deaths, bodies turned one big mass of pulp, mixed and cooked to turn into tofu. poor basterds couldn't even escape because nature gave them brains but not legs. those vegans must be proud of what they've accomplished.

Apparently it has been established that yogurt has a heart. I just cant keep up with the amazing advances in biology. Anyway, who cares if yogurt has feelings? What I want to know is if yogurt is a ******* liar or not.
