i'm looking for a well-made, casual plain toe oxford...maybe a little on the chunkier side.

my ideal would be the yuketen military spec oxford. (http://www.selectism.com/news/2009/1...-oxford-shoes/)

but this isn't available in the u.s.

does anybody know of any oxfords available in the u.s. that are similar to these?

Alden is the obvious choice.

E's Leeds, in black calf, are very nice. I wore a pair for many years, during military service...more substantial than the issue oxfords and the better quality of leather took a spit-shine much more easily than the issued versions!

I was looking this terminology up and it seems like a crapshoot. English/American definitions are generally opposite and then that isn't even very clear. Seems oxford can me whatever the hell you want it to mean. You are right though, the traditional English definition I believe is oxford=balmoral.

I was under this impression as well, and saw the pictures and was like "shoes look pretty nice, too bad it isn't an oxford."

^ Those are nice, like most NDCs, Cez. Although they aren't Oxfords, but 2-eye Derbies, not chunky, but narrow and probably too fashion-forward for someone whose ideal would be the Yuketen Military Spec Oxford; a rather classic shoe... I think those should be more suitable ( if we stick with NDC ): http://www.yoox.com/item.asp?sec=1&Y...Q&sts=sr_men80

They aren't oxfords in MC, but pretty much everywhere else in the universe, they are.

I'm pretty sure the universe is wrong and MC is right though... I may not be a stickler for rules in SW&D but let's at least speak properly.

Plain toe bluchers or plain toe derbies. I'm definitely against looking clueless.
