I am considering getting a pair of plain-toe balmorals for use with evening wear. I despise patent leather, and I can't bring myself to wear opera pumps. This is the pair I am considering: http://www.kentwang.com/shoes/benchgrade-plaintoe-balmoral.html I plan on giving them a good shine when I wear them with the tuxedo.
Part of my reasoning for buying these is that I can use them in other situations as well where I would normally wear a cap-toe balmoral, like job interviews, weddings, funerals, etc. I did see an Ask Andy thread where everyone indicated that plain-toe balmorals really aren't more formal than cap-toes, at least in the business world. This has me slightly worried.
My question is this: am I falling into the trap of trying to make one pair of shoes fit roles that should really be filled by two? What I don't want to do is end up buying a pair of cap-toe shoes and a pair of patent leather shoes in a year from now when I come to the realization that the plain-toe balmoral isn't sufficient for either role.
Thoughts?
